Flamengo crushes Madureira at the Maracanã and advances to the Carioca Championship final.

The quest for the seventh Carioca three-peat continues! This Monday (2), Flamengo thrashed Madureira 8-0 at the Maracanã, and secured a place in the Carioca Championship final. Lucas Paquetá (2), Jean (own goal), Pedro (4) and Samuel Lino scored the goals for Flamengo. Now, Mengão faces Fluminense in the State Championship final in search of their 40th title.

The game

The match began with Flamengo controlling possession and pressing forward. And just four minutes in, they opened the scoring with Paquetá! From a corner kick into the box, the number 20 rose unmarked at the far post to head the ball in: 1-0. It was the midfielder's second goal since returning to Flamengo.

The Flamengo team extended their lead in the 17th minute with Paquetá, who played a beautiful one-two with Pedro and chipped the ball over the goalkeeper. However, the number 20 was offside. Six minutes later, Flamengo scored again, and this time it counted! Carrascal drove the ball to the edge of the area and passed it to Paquetá, who volleyed it into the corner, giving the goalkeeper no chance: 2-0. 

From the 29th minute towards, Madureira were down to ten men. Wallace Camilo made a hard tackle on De La Cruz. After consulting VAR, the referee showed a red card to the midfielder of the Tricolor Suburbano. 

With one more player on the field, Flamengo gained even more space to impose their game and scored the third with an own goal! Cebolinha advanced down the left and passed to Paquetá on the wing. He crossed into the area and Jean sent it into his own net instead of clearing it to the byline: 3-0. 

At the end of the first half, Flamengo scored their fourth goal. Alex Sandro advanced down the left, challenged his marker, and still managed to cross into the box for Pedro to tap the ball into the back of the net. A great game from the red-and-black team, who didn't let Madureira get past midfield.

The second half started with two goals from Pedro. The fifth came from a superb pass by Vitão to Emerson Royal, who crossed first-time for the number 9 to finish into the goal. The sixth came in the following minute with Evertton Araujo recovering the ball from Madureira's defense; the striker shot from outside the area to complete his hat trick in the match.

With the route secured, coach Filipe Luís made the first substitutions for the Flamengo team. Luiz Felipe and Luiz Araújo came on for De La Cruz and Carrascal, respectively.

At 19 minutes, Luiz Araújo took a shot from outside the area, Neguete jumped and sent it out for a corner. Two minutes later, Flamengo scored their seventh goal with Pedro's fourth. Luiz Araújo attempted a shot inside the area, the Madureira defense blocked the shot, and the ball fell to number 9 who struck it powerfully into the back of the net: 7-0. This was Pedro's 110th goal at the Maracanã.

Flamengo didn't let up and continued to dominate until the end. In the 43rd minute, Samuel Lino received the ball at the edge of the area, dribbled, and shot low into the right corner past Neguete to score Flamengo's eighth goal, sealing the route. With the aggregate score at 11-0, Flamengo secured a place in the Carioca final against Fluminense.
