Sesc RJ Flamengo fights hard, but is defeated by Dentil Praia Clube and says goodbye to the Superliga

Sesc RJ Flamengo said goodbye to the Women's Superliga after a hard-fought defeat to Dentil Praia Clube in a tie-break, in front of almost 10 people at Maracanãzinho, on Friday night (April 24.04). Coach Bernardinho's team started behind (0-2), fought back and took the third game of the best-of-three semifinal series to a tie-break, but couldn't withstand their rival from Uberlândia (MG): 23-25, 34-36, 25-22, 25-11 and 13-15. 

With a record of 22 wins and only five losses in this edition of the Superliga, Sesc RJ Flamengo started the semifinal at a disadvantage, with a straight-sets defeat away from home. They then leveled the score with a comeback victory, 3-2, at the Maracanãzinho. In game 3, again with the support of the fans in the temple of volleyball, they saw Dentil Praia Clube play better in the decisive moments to secure their place in the final.

Opposite hitter Tainara and outside hitter Simone Lee were the top scorers for Flamengo in the match, with 23 points each, followed by outside hitter Helena with 22. Libero and captain Laís praised the team's season and fighting spirit.

"It's not a medal that defines a champion. This team worked like champions and fought until the last point. There were very few defeats throughout the season, with two titles (Taça Brasil and Campeonato Carioca) and a historic Superliga semifinal against a very high-level opponent, Dentil Praia Clube. It was a year of great learning, with a mostly young group. We will learn from this and move forward. In moments like these, we see the greatness of a team. The way we fought, even though we didn't achieve the coveted qualification, makes me proud. This team is very great," said libero and captain Laís.
