Flamengo mobilizes the nation in action against racism

Flamengo calls his supporters for a great movement against racism at the Maracaná stadium this evening (February 19), before the start of the party against Remo. Players and fans crossed their arms forming an "X", a gesture that constitutes FIFA's protocol against racism in cases of racist offenses during parties. 

The action in Maracaná is an expression of Flamengo's respect for racial diversity. Since 1980, the fight against racism has been part of the club's statutes, and in 1992 a statutory enactment expanded its reach even further. In 2025, Flamengo took new steps in this direction, including sanctions against any practice or incitement to discrimination.

Respect for diversity is present every day at the club. As a sports association, Flamengo works to develop children and young people through sports. This translates into the creation of opportunities and a real impact on the lives of these families. 

Currently, Flamengo has 1.181 athletes in various sporting disciplines, more than a thousand in its youth categories. Of them, 47,5% live in a situation of social vulnerability, this is due to the economic situation of their family or because they live in risky areas. Last year, Flamengo's healthcare professionals provided 13.684 services in the areas of health and performance — from physiotherapy and psychology to medicine, dentistry, masotherapy and nutrition —, thus reinforcing Flamengo's role in the development of athletes on the ground, as well as the citizenry.

In youth football, Flamengo has a department dedicated to human development. Currently, 329 young people participate in a routine that integrates sports, education and citizenship. The club monitors your academic performance and implements projects that address topics such as racism, violence, health and decision-making. 

Furthermore, the Club promotes racial literacy initiatives in all sports, with special attention to young athletes, expanding the dialogue on identity, respect and citizenship. These initiatives were carried out in collaboration with institutions such as ID_BR, CUFA and the Municipal Secretariat of Culture of Río de Janeiro, strengthening a qualified and coherent approach to the topic.

Dialogue with the UN global agenda

Today's action continues the campaign launched in 2025, which proposes the recognition of the Nation as the first "symbolic-cultural nation" in the world, and that every nation has responsibilities. 

Attentive to global demands, Flamengo actively participates on 17 fronts related to the Sustainable Development Objectives (SDG). This evening, the club highlights SDG 18, created by Brazil, which combats racism. The SDGs are a UN global agenda that sets goals for a fairer, more inclusive and sustainable world by 2030.

This evening's action, in our field, with our players and our passion, seeks to create awareness on the ground in the world of sport, across all of society, about such an important cause", says the president of Flamengo, Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap.
