Flamengo is well represented at the Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires. Aieser Batista, Igor Gabriel, and Matheus Alves, members of the Flamengo youth team, are part of the Brazilian U-18 team competing in the tournament. The "Crias da Gávea" kicked off the tournament with a close 21-19 victory over Venezuela. They then suffered a 20-15 defeat against Ukraine. 

In an interview with the Official Website, winger Aieser spoke about his experience in the International Championship and his expectations for the final matches of the first stage.

"It's been a sensational experience. It's truly incredible to be able to participate in the Olympics, represent my country, and experience other cultures. We have two more important games against two strong teams, and we have to win to advance to the next stage. We'll do our best, and God willing, we'll complete another stage," said the 18-year-old player. 

Igor Gabriel, one of the standout players from the red-black youth academy, was called up for the first time and was thrilled with the moment he is experiencing. 

"It's an indescribable feeling. This is my first call-up to a national team, and I'm extremely proud. It's all thanks to my hard work and, above all, to the sacrifices my parents make to always support me and help me when I need it most. In the worst moments, they were the only ones with me, so I owe all of this to them, because none of this would have been possible alone. I'd also like to emphasize the importance of some people in my journey: friends who have always supported me and are there for me whenever they can, especially my aunt Elizabeti, my uncle Hélio, my cousins ​​Gustavo and Guilherme, my brothers Pedro Guido and Bianca, and my uncle Ricardo, the biggest Flamengo fan I know. They've all helped me immensely along my path, which I'm sure is just beginning," emphasized the Gávea native. 

Brazil concludes the first phase this Friday (12), with two more commitments: against New Zealand, at 11:30 am and against Andorra at 14:30 pm. The athletes will return to Flamengo next week for the Under-18 Brazil Basketball Cup, which will be held at Tijuca Tênis Clube.
