Three Social Communication students and Professor Juliano Azevedo, all from Estácio's Belo Horizonte campus, had the opportunity to witness an afternoon with FlaBasquete. During halftime of the Copa Avianca matches, a friendly tournament in preparation for the 2017/18 season, Flamengo participated in Media Day, hosted by the National Basketball League, at the hotel where they are staying in the capital of Minas Gerais. Estácio sponsors the Flamengo team and organized this event in conjunction with the club's Communications department.

"Of course, we have the responsibility, as teachers, to teach journalism in the classroom, but in practice, going out into the field and having them experiment, see how it works, and ask questions, they learn much more. We show them in the classroom how things happen, but the situation can change, and they have to know how to deal with that when they're out in the field. The students were very happy with today's opportunity," says Professor Juliano, who teaches Language and Scriptwriting for Audiovisual at the institution.

Between photo shoots, the students were able to chat with all the athletes and coaching staff, produce exclusive material, and have all their questions answered by the LNB and Flamengo communications teams. Captain Marcelinho Machado was among those who spoke to the team, who was representing TV Estácio and the college newspaper at the time. Guilherme Buso, the League's Communications Director, was also interviewed. At the end, the students and the professor posed for an official photo with the Mais Querido squad.

"Observing how a media day is run is a very important experience for their development. It's a new experience, an excellent marketing strategy, a relationship strategy, a press strategy, and a way to welcome the press. It's integrated communication that I think they'll experience even more and apply to their training. I think that having daily practice helps improve their education much more than just book knowledge," concludes the professor.

The basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo receive funding from their sponsors – Estácio, AmBev, Rede D'or, IRB Brasil RE, CSN, Brasil Plural, and EY – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR) and the State Incentive Law/Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Sports, Recreation, and Youth (Seelje), in addition to support from the Brazilian Club Committee (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources generated by the Pelé Law. The Anjo da Guarda Rubro-Negro Project, a personal tax transfer, benefits all Olympic sports of the Most Beloved.
