New year, new victory! In the first game of 2022, Flamengo beats Pinheiros 81-64
Orgulho da Nação has 13 wins in 15 matches and is in second place in the NBB
By Isabela Abirached - inIn the first game of 2022, FlaBasquete restarted the fight for the eighth championship of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB) with a victory. Mengão hosted Pinheiros at Maracanãzinho on Sunday night (9) and had no difficulty in achieving another positive result in the competition, by 81 to 64.

Rafael Mineiro was the team's standout performer, leading the scorer with 17 points and six rebounds. The number 12 was followed by Brandon Robinson, with 13 points and five rebounds. Túlio da Silva topped the scoring charts with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Yago dished out seven assists.
The game
Flamengo started dictating the pace of the match, attentive on defense and relying on excellent offensive play from Olivinha. The team took an 11-4 lead in the first five minutes of play, but Pinheiros fought back and managed to take a 15-11 lead. With baskets from Brandon Robinson and two long-range shots from youngster Rafael Rachel, Pinheiros retook the lead and finished the first quarter up 25-19. In the second quarter, Mengão went on a six-point run and extended their lead. The São Paulo team stayed close to Flamengo and tied the score just before halftime, but a basket from Faverani and a three-pointer from Rafael Mineiro took the Rubro-Negro to the third quarter with a 46-35 lead.
Upon returning to the court, the Gávea team started with a low offensive output, but picked up pace in the final minutes of the period. With baskets from Rafael Mineiro and a beautiful shot from outside the perimeter by Luke Martinez, the team took the lead and went into the final minutes leading 65-51. In the final quarter, the team only needed to manage the good lead built during the match to give the final score: 81-64.
Sequence of matches
Rubro-Negro's next game in the NBB is scheduled for next Tuesday (11), at the Maracanãzinho gym, against Bauru, at 20 pm. Afterwards, the team takes a brief break from the competition to play in the Super 8. Gustavo De Conti's team will debut in the competition next weekend.
