Flamengo, as the largest multi-sport club in the country, always seeks to be a protagonist and active on and off the field, court, pool, gym or mat. And, last Tuesday (24), Rubro-Negro once again sought justice and compliance with the rules through a official note, signed by its Board of Directors, in which it contested the change in the regulations of the South American Basketball Cup this year by FIBA Americas, in the middle of the competition.
At the time, the international federation of the sport changed the bracket for the semifinal phase: instead of the first-placed team in Group D, the best third-placed team from Groups A, B and C would be part of Group E. The leader of quadrangular D would then go to Group F. This Thursday (26), FIBA went back on its word and released the regulations as previously planned by the Organizing Committee.
"Flamengo did its part off the court by defending our rights. Justice was served, and FIBA guaranteed the fairness of the championship, with the same rules applying from start to finish. Now we will finish our preparations on the court to try to win our group in the semifinals and, thus, reach the grand final and the title, which is our biggest goal at the beginning of this season," celebrated Flamengo's Vice President of Olympic Sports, Alexandre Póvoa.
Dates set
On November 7th, 8th and 9th, Orgulho da Nação will play in the semifinal stage in group E against the top-placed teams from groups B and D and the second-placed team from group C. The competitors from group F - the leader of group C, the second-placed teams from groups A and B and the best third-placed team - will take to the court on November 14th, 15th and 16th. The best team from each semifinal group (E and F) will qualify for the Grand Final.
The trophy will be decided in a best-of-five series, with the finalist with the best record receiving home-court advantage. The decisive matches are scheduled for December 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, and 20th.
