At 27, Átila boasts a solid international resume. Since 2003, the center has played for teams abroad. But in Santiago del Estero, Argentina, he's experiencing a new experience in his career. Alongside point guard Guto, he's Flamengo's only newcomer to the South American League.

"I'm excited. I've never played in this competition before, and it will be the first international tournament I'll be playing in a Flamengo jersey," said the center, the club's latest signing of the season. "I think it will be a tough tournament. We have to think about each game individually and try to achieve our goal, which is the title," he added.

Later, the team faces Malvin, from Uruguay, in the opening match of the first phase, at 20:30 pm (Brasília time). On Saturday (30.10/20), the opponent is Inacap, from Chile, at 30:31.10 pm, and, on Sunday (23/XNUMX), the team faces Quimsa, from Argentina, at XNUMX pm.

Born in Salvador, Átila began playing basketball at age 17 at Clube Baiano de Tênis. He then played for Asbac, Bahia, and Macaé before moving to the United States.

"I played for Macaé's youth team and won a scholarship to play at the University of Northern Iowa in the US. I thought it would be important not only to improve my game, but also to grow as a person," he says.

While still in the US, Átila played for Minnesota State University. He then played for BC Euroins Cherno in Bulgaria and Tenerife Rural in Spain. Before joining Flamengo, he also had a stint in the NBA Development League (NBA D-League) with the Bakersfield Jam.

"Brazilian basketball has evolved a lot during the time I was away. I received this offer to play for Flamengo and I couldn't pass up this opportunity to return," he concluded.
