On Monday night (May 19.05), Flamengo secured its spot in the grand final of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). With a 79-71 victory over Mogi das Cruzes, the reigning champions closed out the best-of-five series 3-1. Meyinsse had an excellent performance and was the star of the match, leading the scorer with 34 points and accumulating six rebounds; Laprovittola was the leader in assists (6). The NBB final already has a time and location: May 31, at 10 am, at the HSBC Arena. Flamengo awaits the winner of the series between Paulistano and São José, which could be decided this Tuesday (May 20.05), as Paulistano is ahead 2-1.

In the first quarter, Meyinsse was the star of the game for Flamengo, scoring 10 of Flamengo's first 12 points. With two minutes remaining, the center blocked a perfect pass from Sidão; after Marcelinho's rebound, the ball fell to Marquinhos for a dunk. The period ended with Flamengo ahead 18-13. In the second quarter, Mogi grew and even tied the score at 20-20. Meyinsse continued to thrive, reaching 15 points with a beautiful fake, getting rid of two defenders, and finishing with a dunk. Halfway through the period, Mogi took a 27-26 lead and even opened up a 33-26 lead, but Flamengo fought back and cut the lead to just two points at the end of the quarter: 34-32 for Mogi.

With a three-pointer, Nico turned the game around for Flamengo; with two more long-range shots from Marquinhos and Olivinha, Flamengo led 43-36 at the start of the third quarter. With a beautiful dunk from Marquinhos, Flamengo opened up a nine-point lead midway through the period. Meyinsse continued to dominate the paint, and was also the game's leading scorer with 22 points. Flamengo went into the final quarter leading 61-50. In the final quarter, the American center scored 12 of Flamengo's 18 points. José Neto's team maintained their momentum and won 79-71, securing their spot in the NBB final.

"That was our goal, to reach the final. We did it, and we have one more game to be crowned champions. We'll wait for our opponent and we have to be ready for either team. We've already played against both (Paulistano and São José) and now we just have to watch their match," said Meyinsse.
