Overwhelming, FlaBasquete wins and gets close to qualifying in the LDA
Pride of the Nation maintains 100% in group B and competes for first place with Pioneros de Quintana Roo (MEX)

The reigning champion of the Liga das Américas (LDA), FlaBasquete, won another match in the 2015 edition of the competition. Playing in Cancún, the Group B venue, the Rubro-Negro defeated Leones de Quilpué 110-77, with a strong second half that saw them take a 30-point lead. Herrmann, who led the way with 26 points and seven rebounds, and Nico, with 18 points and nine assists, came close to a double-double and performed well in the match. Benite, with 17 points, and Olivinha, with 21, also performed well in the statistics.
The team returns to the court in the early hours of Sunday to Monday, at 0:15, against the home team, Pioneros de Quintana Roo (MEX), to fight for the leadership of group B.
The game
Flamengo started the match confidently again, after a strong debut against Malvín of Uruguay (94-74). Benite came off the bench to perform well. With a three-pointer just seconds from the end of the first quarter, the forward/guard increased Flamengo's lead to ten points. With two more free throws made by Herrmann, the deficit reached 12, but Leones also had a foul to close the gap on Flamengo. Flamengo closed the first half at 28-18. The Argentine duo of Nico and Herrmann were the standout performers of the period, with nine and seven points each, respectively. The second quarter began at the same pace as the first, with two three-pointers from Marcelinho and Olivinha keeping Flamengo in a relatively comfortable position. In the final minutes of the quarter, the Chilean team managed to increase offensively and narrowed the gap to 41-36. It was with another three-pointer, this time from Nico, that the Pride of the Nation returned to the ten-point lead, a margin that remained until the clock went off to announce halftime, when the opposing power forward/center Malik Cooke hit a long shot for Leones (48-41). The Chilean team won the period (23-20), but José Neto's team continued to win the game.
In the second half, the balance disappeared, and Flamengo took the lead. Herrmann returned for the third quarter still with a hot hand. Besides the foreigner, Olivinha was also shooting well, and the two had 16 points each with five minutes remaining. The halftime break benefited the team, which was overwhelming in the third quarter, accumulating a 21-point lead (76-55). Flamengo closed the period at 30-17 and went into the final period leading 78-58. With good shooting from the field, with three made three-pointers, Benite was in good form and quickly reached 13 points. Nico and Herrmann also performed well from long range—Flamengo ended up scoring 42 points in total on three-pointers—and the lead only grew, surpassing 30 points (97-63). The broad dominance continued until the final seconds and the Pride of the Nation closed the score at an impressive 110 to 77.
