O return of Rafael Araújo, known as Baby, to Flamengo basketball was celebrated by the player, his teammates, and the fans. Therefore, this Thursday (August 12.08), on his 30th birthday, the center has several reasons to celebrate. Back in Rio de Janeiro and at the club where he won the South American League and the New Basketball Brazil in 2009, he couldn't be happier.
The player spent the day with his teammates, training to get in shape as quickly as possible and start competing in the State Championship on August 27th, at Tijuca Tênis Clube, against the home team.
"I'm very happy to be back at Flamengo. In fact, I shouldn't have even left, should I? I celebrated my birthday today by training hard with my teammates so we'll be ready for the matches. I'm working hard, in good physical condition, and confident of having a good season," he said.
Recognized by fans, who left him several happy birthday messages on your profile on the microblogging site Twitter, he thanked the support of the Nação Rubro-Negra and promised to honor the Flamengo shirt in every match.
"The people on Twitter sent me a lot of messages of support. I'm very happy with this affection. Even when I was at Paulistano, Flamengo fans always supported me, asked for my return, and it's important. This kind of relationship gives me even more motivation," said the center, who hopes to repay the affection with victories and titles this new season.
"Last year, Flamengo, despite the difficulties of some injured players, showed its strength. Now, with my return and the arrival of Lamonte, who excelled in Argentina and has everything to make this group even stronger, we are in a position to fight for all the titles we will compete for this season. That is our goal," he added.
Born in Curitiba, Baby began his basketball career in São Paulo, playing at universities in the United States, and then reaching the NBA, where he played for the Toronto Raptors, Utah Jazz, and Minnesota Timberwolves, as well as in Europe. In the 2008-2009 season, he joined Flamengo, played 44 games, and averaged 13,3 points per game.
