Flamengo has entered into a significant partnership for its youth basketball teams. Alongside the NBA, the club now has the NBA Basketball School for its younger athletes. With the implementation of the project, the basketball teams at Mais Querido will begin using the North American training methodology, always striving for the best results in developing new talent.

 

"Flamengo already has a fruitful partnership with the NBA, having been the first club in Latin America to participate in a League preseason. The Pride of the Nation has already played five games against franchises from the world's biggest basketball league. Now, Flamengo, the basketball world champion, is honored to partner with the NBA to develop new talent. Flamengo creates stars at home, and the Sempre Flamengo Sports School, with the support of the NBA, will further reinforce this motto," says Vice President of Olympic Sports, Alexandre Póvoa.

With the mission of inspiring and providing young players with the opportunity to develop physically and socially through the training methods of the world's largest basketball league, the NBA School will introduce new work procedures, from player recruitment to lesson plans, training, evaluations, and monitoring by NBA staff.

 

"It's a very important project in our strategic planning, as one of our pillars is to consolidate excellent training efforts. I had the opportunity to learn about the content and firmly believe it will be of great importance in the development of our students/athletes," explains Diego Jeleilate, Manager of the red-and-black basketball team.

 

With the agreement, the North American league's logo will be present on the red-and-black uniforms and Gávea will become a unit of the NBA School in Brazil, making Flamengo the first club to implement the dynamic in the country.

 

"Flamengo began its partnership with the NBA in 2014, when, for the first time, a Latin American club participated in preseason matches of the world's largest basketball league. Since then, these two major internationally recognized brands have joined forces to further develop the sport both within and outside Brazil, each with its own expertise and target audience. The arrival of the NBA Basketball School in Gávea represents a major step toward implementing a unique athlete development methodology that the club has been developing for all its youth teams. Flamengo has been dedicated to developing citizen-athletes for several years, and I believe this was an important step for our project. It's worth noting that basketball pioneered a partnership of this magnitude, but we are also in advanced discussions to implement models of excellence in our other seven Olympic sports," concludes Marcelo Vido, Executive Director of Olympic Sports at Mais Querido.
