The dominance of Flamengo's basketball is evident on the national stage. The Pride of the Nation, which just won its twelfth consecutive State Championship title, is the most successful team in the history of Novo Basquete Brasil, with five trophies. But excellence in handling the orange ball isn't exclusive to Flamengo's adult team. This past year, five of Flamengo's youth basketball teams reached the State finals, and the "Mais Querido" emerged champion in two of the categories, one of which, the under-19 category, has yet to reach the final.
Flamengo's pre-basketball team, comprised of athletes under 12 years old, finished runner-up in the Carioca Championship. The under-13 team defeated Tijuca Tênis Clube to take the title, as did the under-14 team, which defeated Vasco da Gama to lift the trophy. The under-15 team narrowly missed out on their rival Cruzmaltino and narrowly missed out on winning their category. The under-17 team finished fifth in their category's State Championship.
The red-and-black under-19 basketball team has yet to play its category final. The boys play Botafogo and will play the first game of the best-of-three series on December 16th.
The basketball base of Mais Querido is proving to be increasingly strong and essential to the future of the Pride of the Nation. The development of the sport relies on the strength of the Red-Black Guardian Angels, who converted their taxes into medals. You too can be part of this evolution. Click here to learn how.
The youth basketball teams of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo rely on resources from their sponsors – CSN (Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional), Banco Bonsucesso and Brasil Brokers – via the Federal Incentive Law/Ministry of Sports (IR), in addition to support from the Brazilian Confederation of Clubs (CBC) resulting from the decentralization of resources originating from the Pelé Law.
