In the first round of the quarterfinals of the State Championship, Flamengo's youth (under-13) and children's (under-15) basketball teams defeated Botafogo by 88 to 28 and 43 to 30, respectively, this Wednesday (05.10), at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium, in Gávea.
In the first game of the night, the Flamengo youth team showed early superiority, opening up a healthy lead in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Flamengo maintained its momentum and further widened the gap. In the second half, Botafogo tried to rally, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Gávea boys. The game's top scorer was Flamengo's Bernardo Campos with 18 points.
In the children's category, the match was more evenly matched. The first quarter ended with a one-point lead between the teams. In the second quarter, Flamengo gained an advantage and held on to it until the end. Douglas Rodrigues stood out for Flamengo, with 11 points.
Fla and Botafogo return to the court for the second round of the competition's quarterfinals next Saturday (08.10). The youth team plays at 12 pm and the children's team at 13:30 pm.
