Brazilian shooting guard Leandrinho, who wore the sacred mantle last season, while the NBA was paralyzed by a strike, will complete, on Thursday night (22.11), in the match between Boston Celtics and San Antonio Spurs, 600 games in the North American Basketball League. And as he has a great relationship with the Most Beloved, in addition to being friends with many red-black players, he received a simple tribute.
Flamengo made a jersey with the number 600 and his name on the back. The Flamengo basketball team also made a point of sending a message to their former teammate, who also wears the Brazilian national team jersey.
Flamengo coach José Neto highlighted Leandrinho's achievement and, as he had already known the former Flamengo player's talent since the youth teams, revealed that he had known for some time that his future would be bright.
"I always tell players that they need to earn things. When you earn something, no one can take it away. It's different from winning, because whoever gives can take it away. And these 600 games are an achievement for Leandrinho; no one can take them away from him. It's a source of pride for us Brazilians, especially for those who have or have had contact with him, here at Flamengo or with the national team. I've known him since the youth teams and know how hard he fought for this achievement. I hope he has more and more success and that another 600 games come. He deserves it," said the Flamengo coach.
Marcelinho, who played with Leandrinho on the national team and for Flamengo, was another to praise the Boston point guard. "He deserves all this success. He's very talented and deserves all the best. He's a great teammate I had at Flamengo and with the national team."
Newly arrived at Flamengo, the young shooting guard Benite highlighted that Leandrinho is a reference for Brazilian basketball.
"It's a source of pride for us Brazilians to have a compatriot reach such a historic milestone. I've always idolized Leandrinho because he's a player of the highest quality. May he have more and more joy and continue to grow."
Marquinhos and Caio Torres also left their message for their teammate.
"It's not just anyone who reaches a milestone like that, especially in the NBA. He's the first Brazilian to do so. May he complete more and more games and bring much happiness to Brazilian fans," said Marquinhos.
"He deserves congratulations for his 600 games and for everything he has done and continues to do for his friends, for Brazil... I wish him all the best. We're all rooting for him from here," concluded Caio Torres.
