Registration is still open for the first national basketball tryout of Clube de Regatas do Flamengo. The event, aimed at young people born between 1993 and 1997, will be held from January 18th to 21st at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium in Gávea, with coaches and players from the adult team in attendance. Registration can be made until Sunday, with Marcelo Andrade, by phone (21) 8169-2957.
One of the names that will be observing the selection process is Marcelinho Machado. "It's very important for a club as big as Flamengo to be concerned about the future of basketball and reviving its youth teams. I remember my childhood, arriving for training and seeing the senior team practice. I really hope it works out and that it produces high-level players," said the shooting guard.
The event will run all day, from 10:19 AM to 11:12 PM, and players will be divided according to age. From 30:1997 AM to 13:14 PM, athletes born in 30 will be evaluated. Then, from 1996:1995 PM to 15:16 PM, it's the turn of those born in 30. Those born in 1993 will take the court from 1994:17 PM to 19:25 PM, and activities will conclude with the older players (born in XNUMX and XNUMX) from XNUMX:XNUMX PM to XNUMX:XNUMX PM. This schedule will be repeated for all four days, and those approved will begin training the following week, on January XNUMXth.
For point guard Fred, the tryouts will be a great opportunity for the youngsters. "We players will be there to help and encourage everyone to give their all. I think our participation also adds a cool aspect, which is giving the athletes extra confidence, as it's much easier to dedicate themselves to the sport with idols around. When I was still a teenager, I always looked up to the adult team, watching all the training sessions, and then trying to perform the same moves on the court. This contact between the youth and professional teams is very important for the development of new athletes," said the player, who is an NBB champion.
