Thousands of fans pushed the Mais Querido towards victory last Wednesday (03.09). Among them, there was an American, crazy about the qualification for the quarterfinals of the 2014 Sadia Cup of Brazil. Jerome Meyinsse, the red-black pivot, was present among the fans who, at no moment, stopped believing in the qualification.
Alongside other players and part of the Pride of the Nation coaching staff, Jerome said he witnessed the best game of his life. "I was sure we'd qualify. I went to a few games last year, but this was the first in 2014. This passion, this energy from the fans is unbelievable. Flamengo is my team. I want to go to every game I can, and I'll do my best to go again on Saturday. During the entire match, there were so many people believing. Some friends didn't go because they thought it was difficult, but I was sure it would work out. Anything is possible when it's Flamengo. I screamed and sang a lot; without a doubt, it was the best game I've seen," said the athlete.
Another person present at the Maracanã alongside Jerome was the team's physiotherapist and Marcelinho's brother, Ricardo Machado. A Flamengo fan since childhood, the doctor assured that only those who were there will truly understand what happened. According to him, the fans' happiness was evident on the American center's face. "It was spectacular. The first time I went to the Maracanã, I was 6 years old. I saw great games, I saw the generation of the 1980s, but that game was special. Many people weren't as Flamengo fans as Jerome was, but when they enter the Maracanã for the first time or watch a match like the one against Coritiba, they are moved by our fanaticism, our chants, and the fans as a whole. Everyone there was certain that the Mais Querido would qualify, even knowing our team's limitations. We were ecstatic. With Flamengo, it's different," Ricardo said.
