Basketball returns with an eye on the third Brazilian championship
Out of the South American and the League of the Americas, Flamengo returns to work thinking about the third consecutive national title

The new year begins this Monday night for Flamengo's basketball team. Coach Paulo Chupeta's team is back in action, already focused on the continuation of the New Basketball Brazil. The current two-time national champion, South American champion, and five-time Rio de Janeiro champion, the red-and-black team will return at 18 p.m. at the HSBC Arena to begin preparations for the match against Paulistano on the 10th at 11 a.m., at the same venue.
Flamengo is in fourth place in the 2009/2010 edition of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB), with four wins in six matches, behind leaders Brasília (9-8), second-place Joinville (7-6), and third-place Franca (7-5). Therefore, the red-and-blacks know they will have to work hard in the second half of the season and the first half of the year. The responsibility is so great that Fred, Jefferson, and Coloneze hired a fitness coach to keep them in shape during their vacations at the end of the year. The team is confident about 2010.
"We're all expecting a very positive year here at Flamengo. Our team has been fighting for every title we've been competing for, and I believe 2010 will be no different. Our goal is to win the national championship for the third time, and we're going to work hard to achieve this title," said point guard Hélio.
Sieve - According to the club's basketball supervisor, André Guimarães, more than 80 young talents have already signed up to participate in the tryout that will select new athletes for Flamengo's youth teams. The event will take place on January 18th, 19th, 20th, and 21st at the Hélio Maurício Gymnasium and is aimed at athletes born between 93 and 97. Coaches Paulo Chupeta, João Batista, Erli, Berro, Igor, and Marcinho will be responsible for leading the selection of the club's future basketball stars.
Players Marcelinho, Hélio, Duda, and Fred will also make special appearances at the tryouts, interacting with all the upcoming athletes and helping select the players born in 1993 and 1994. Young people from all over Brazil are invited to this unique opportunity to play basketball for the country's most beloved club. Interested parties can register by calling (21) 8169-2957.
