Flamengo's under-17 basketball team shone away from home and lifted the State Champion trophy on Thursday night (11/29), after an undisputed victory over Tijuca, 57 to 42 (21 to 6), at Tijuca Tênis Clube. With the result, Rubro-Negro closed the best-of-three series 2 x 0 (in the first game, on 11/24, the team had already won 65 to 43).
Coach Leonardo praised the importance of this victory for the red and black basketball team and highlighted the player who made the difference on the court.
"This title served to consolidate the work that is being invested and done at Flamengo's youth level, which is why it is so important. On Saturday we can still be champions in the under-15 category, we are doing very well," said the Flamengo coach, analyzing the decisive match.
"The game started off tough. We were losing 6-1, but we managed to turn the score around to 21-6. From then on, we maintained a strong defense, and Tijuca was unable to react. A key player in this game was Douglas Sales (pivot), who played very well."
The under-15 team lost the second game of the final by 70 to 83, last Wednesday (28.11), in Laranjeiras, to Fluminense. But the Fla boys will have the chance to lift the trophy next Saturday (01.12), against Tricolor, at 14 pm, in Gávea, the last game of the best-of-three series of the final phase.
