Two-time world champion, Olivinha begins his 15th professional season with the Manto Sagrado
God of the Race recently completed ten consecutive years in the Pride of the Nation
By Helena Petry - inThe God of the Race continues to make history! The only Pride of the Nation athlete to have won both world titles, current FlaBasquete captain Olivinha has another impressive feat on his resume: the star begins his 15th professional season wearing the Sacred Mantle in August.
"I'm incredibly happy to continue my work with Flamengo; I have another year on my contract. For me, as I always say, it's an honor, an immense joy, to be able to represent Flamengo. For this upcoming season, from what I'm seeing, we'll have a roster update; expectations are very high. We know that Flamengo is always considered a favorite, season after season, and this shows the incredible work the board has been doing with Flamengo basketball. I'm very motivated for the upcoming challenges, and we hope to have another great year," he assured.
"Olivinha is the God of the Flamengo Race. He brings immeasurable value. With him, we are assured that this is Flamengo. We will have respect and commitment. It is a great pleasure to guarantee another year of collaboration with this idol of the Nation," said Guilherme Kroll, the club's vice president of Olympic Sports.

Olivinha made his debut with the Mais Querido's first team in 2001, with his first stint with the Gávea club ending in 2004. He returned to represent the club in the 2006/07 season, returning again in 2012 and never leaving. Since then, he has played for Mengão in six NBB championships, one Liga das Américas, one Champions League, two Super 8 Cups, eleven State Championships, and, of course, two World Cups. During this period, Olivinha also represented the Brazilian national team and became champion of the Pan American Games in 2015.
The greatest rebounder in NBB history, with over 3.600 rebounds, the "God of Race" averaged 9.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, 1.2 assists, and 11.7 efficiency last season. At 39, the 6'4" power forward, who has amassed outstanding performances and collective and individual titles, isn't satisfied.

"We want to win all the titles again. Every time a new season starts, there's this expectation that Flamengo 'will win everything,' and that's the mindset we have to have. We're going into another season with the goal of winning, winning, and winning every competition. We'll try to fight for the Champions League and the NBB again. Excitement is high, new teammates are new, and the same goal as always: winning every championship," declared the number 16.
Going forward in the 2022/23 season, FlaBasquete, led by Gustavo De Conti, will have as its main objective the Champions League of the Americas. The NBB, the Super 8 Cup, and the State Championship are also goals for the Rubro-Negro.
