Brasilia debuts with victory over Quimsa

Brasília debuted with a victory over Quimsa, from Argentina, in the final phase of the South American Basketball League, this Thursday (25.11), at the HSBC Arena. The Brazilian team took no notice of the current champion of the competition and scored a beautiful score: 95 x 89. Giovannoni, from Brasília, and the Argentine Mazzaro were the top scorers of the match, with 23 points.
The team from the federal capital, the reigning NBB (New Basketball Brazil) champion, performed well, especially in the first three quarters, when they opened up a 30-point lead. With five technical fouls in their favor in the third quarter alone, Quimsa still tried to rally but failed to threaten Brasília.
Besides being the game's top scorer, Giovannoni also excelled in another key area: rebounding. He recovered the ball the most times, winning it back eight times in total, four times on defense and four times on offense, and assessed his team's debut in the competition as very positive.
"It was a good victory. The Argentines' reaction can be considered normal in the final quarters. The most important thing was to win. Now, we're going all out against Espartanos, as our goal is to take first place in the group," said Giovannoni.
Brasília will face Espartanos, from Venezuela, this Friday (26.11), at 19 pm. Quimsa ended its participation in the first phase of the final hexagonal and, if the Brazilians win again, will be the second classified in this group. If Flamengo wins first place in its group, it will face Quimsa, in a repeat of the last two finals of the South American League.
