Do you remember the most memorable moments of Mais Querido at the headquarters of the South American League?
By Mariana Sa - inFlamengo will face tough challenges next week (November 20, 21, and 22) against Instituto Córdoba, Minas Gerais, and Bauru. Preparing hard for the semifinal stage of the South American League, the red-and-black team will return to a familiar venue: Jeunesse Arena.
In this #BuzzFla, remember the main moments of Pride of the Nation in the arena, which has already witnessed so many great red-black moments.
1- First NBB title
The Mais Querido's history with Jeunesse Arena is not new. Back in 2009, when the New Basketball Brazil was being introduced to the world, Flamengo lifted its first trophy right on the stage of the following week's matches.
In a best-of-five final, the Mais Querido hosted three games at the Arena. In the last, the fifth match of the series, it was a win-or-lose affair, and the red and black painted the place. With more than 15 fans supporting Mengão, the score of 76 to 68 gave the Gávea club its first title.
2- Another great final
Another packed day at Jeunesse to see Flamengo win the basketball championship. On June 1, 2013, Flamengo had the advantage of playing at home in the single game that would determine the NBB5 champion. Against Uberlândia, Marquinhos and Caio Torres were the standout performers in the 77-70 victory. Another trophy to their name and another day to make history.
3- Three-time championship
With 15.449 in attendance, in the 2013/14 season, it was their turn to defeat Paulistano in the final, taking home their third NBB trophy. Jeunesse Arena witnessed a towering performance by Jerome Meyinsse, the final's MVP, and the thrilling 78-73 triumph.
4- Historical result
On May 26, 2015, Flamengo began its quest for the NBB title. In Game 1, Flamengo put on a sensational performance, dominating Bauru from start to finish, and winning by the largest margin in the history of the tournament final: 91 to 69.
On the last day of the South American (22/11), the teams will face each other again at 20:30 pm.
5- "Remind you, I'm a World Champion"
Besides all the memorable moments already mentioned, the greatest of all was saved for last. On September 28, 2014, Flamengo hosted the Liga das Américas final at Jeunesse Arena and won the biggest title in basketball history on that court. With a tremendous collective performance, the team defeated Maccabi Tel Aviv 90-77, overturning the deficit from the first leg, and becoming champions. This was the only title missing for Flamengo basketball to be victorious in every way.
