Undefeated champion! Gávea's youth team beat Tijuca away from home and lift the U-22 State Championship trophy

A score of 83 to 42 guarantees the title; now, part of the squad will compete in the Brazilian Under-19 Championship and some athletes will be available for the main team.

Our Gávea Kids are Rio de Janeiro champions! On Thursday afternoon (30), Mengão easily defeated Tijuca Tênis Clube and lifted the U-22 State Basketball Championship trophy. Playing in the opponent's gym, the team led by coach Rodrigo Leonardo closed the score with 83 to 42.

The first two periods were close, with the Mais Querido always leading. After the break, the red-and-black team put on a strong performance in the third quarter, leading by 15 points in the first half, with a display of individual skill from our boys. In the final ten minutes, the boys controlled the match well, opening up another 16 points, and securing the victory and the trophy.

The highest scorers in the match were Maciel and Rachel, each with 17 points, followed by Matheusinho, with 15, and Emanuel, with 14.

Campaign

In August, Flamengo finished the championship's qualifying phase in first place, undefeated, sealing their place in the semi-finals, a stage in which they won both matches against Atitude.

In the final against Tijuca, two more victories. Last Tuesday (28), Rubro-Negro won the first leg of the final by 107 to 54, at the Hélio Maurício gym, at the Gávea social headquarters. Tonight, the triumph guaranteed the cup for the Gávea club.

Some of the athletes who took the court this afternoon will compete in the CBB Brazilian Under-19 Championship. The Red-Black team is already guaranteed a spot in the final stage, which will take place from November 27th to December 6th at the Tijuca Tennis Club. Power forward Rafael Rachel will join the professional team, while other young athletes will also be available to join the main squad and participate in coach Gustavo De Conti's training sessions.
