He spent countless minutes on the court, scored more than 10 points with the Sacred Mantle, and earned a following over ten years at the Mais Querido. Marcelinho Machado's contract has been renewed for 2017-18 and will continue to strive for great achievements with the Pride of the Nation. This, however, will be the captain's farewell, as he will play his final season with the red-and-black Mantle.

 

Marcelo Magalhães Machado is one of the biggest names in Brazilian and red-and-black basketball today. Five-time champion of the Novo Basquete Brasil (New Basketball Brazil), ten Carioca Championship titles, one CBB Brazilian Championship, a South American Championship, a League of the Americas Championship, and a World Championship. Playing for the NBB, he also received two MVP trophies, was twice named the competition's best small forward, three times the top scorer, and was named best sixth man in 2015-16.

At 42 years old, Marcelinho finished the NBB9 with a total of 28 games, 776.6 minutes on the court, 414 points, 89 rebounds, and 112 assists. On average, the player scored 14.8 points per game, a mark that secured him the position of Flamengo's second-highest scorer of the season.

"I'm very happy to renew my contract and be able to play the last season of my career wearing the Flamengo shirt. I want to thank everyone who has always been by my side, especially all the Flamengo fans who have supported me unconditionally over these ten years, since I returned from Europe to Gávea. I wanted to stay at the club to play my last year as a professional, and I'm sure this last season will be very special for all of us. I'm very confident that this will be a happy year. I hope that, by playing at a high level, I can help Flamengo win important titles. That's my wish," said the captain.

Along with Humberto, JP Batista, Ronald Ramon, Marquinhos, Olivinha and coach José Neto, already confirmed in the Mais Querido squad, Marcelinho will fight for achievements and titles in the next season with the Pride of the Nation.
