Much like his fellow countrymen, Rafael Mineiro is quietly settling in, taking his place on Gustavo De Conti's team. He already has a history at Flamengo. In his first year (2015-2016), he already launched the Novo Basquete Brasil (New Basketball Brazil). He left and returned now to be one of the most important players on the roster, as he has shown at the start of the season. In this Saturday's 87-64 victory over Vasco, the number 12 led the team with 18 points, a few dunks, and three-pointers that roused the fans... on the bench, as Vasco was in charge and the Nation couldn't be there.
After the game, the power forward preferred to share the victory's merits with the squad and highlighted Nesbitt's arrival as another factor in strengthening the team. For Mineiro, Flamengo will evolve even further and will be stronger when it reaches the major competitions.
"I'm very happy to have been the top scorer, but I'm even happier with the performance and the victory. The evolution is gradual. First, we didn't have David Nesbitt, and with his arrival, the team grows. He has to adapt to us, and we have to adapt to him. We're doing things a little faster, with a different tempo, and we'll get there with a team that's constantly evolving."
In 17 minutes on the court, Rafael Mineiro scored 18 points and grabbed five rebounds. His best scores had been against Niterói and Vasco itself, when he scored 11 points. In the next match, against Niterói, on Saturday (08), Rafael Mineiro will not be on the court, as he was called up to the Brazilian National Team for games against Canada and the Virgin Islands.
