Varejão spoke to the Official Website about his expectations for his debut with FlaBasquete.
"The expectation is high, not only to get on the court, but also because everyone around me is constantly asking when I'll make my debut. I know that this first moment will be very important to get more game rhythm, because I've only played two games with the national team since February 2017. My goal is very clear, which is to be able to contribute to the team, which has already been doing a great job, in the playoffs," said the center.
The number 17 also highlighted the importance of the second half of the competition to acquire the necessary match rhythm.
"This qualifying phase will help me to better understand the plays and gain more rhythm, since I had been training alone. Now I'm training twice a day with the whole group, with more contact, and that has been important for me to arrive well-prepared for the playoffs and be able to contribute more to the team," Varejão concluded.
Flamengo comes from victories over Vasco (twice), Pinheiros, Mogi, Liga Sorocabana, Vitória, Basquete Cearense and Botafogo, which have established them as the undisputed leader of the NBB Caixa. In their last match, the Rio de Janeiro derby against Vasco da Gama, the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved) won 89-75. Arthur Pecos and MJ Rhett were the standout players for the "Pride of the Nation," each scoring 15 points.
