NBB (New Basketball Brazil) leader Flamengo faces, this Wednesday (23.02), one of its biggest rivals on the courts today: Brasília. In a match still valid for the first round of the competition, the teams play at 19:30 pm, at the Nilson Nelson gym, in Brasília, with broadcast by SPORTV 2.

Flamengo vs. Brasília is considered one of the greatest classics in Brazilian men's basketball today. And it's no wonder. The teams occupy the top two spots in the overall NBB standings, each with four losses. With one game more than their rival (18 to 17), Flamengo is in first place with a 77,78% success rate. Brasília is in second place with a 76,47% success rate.

Despite the strain caused by the long sequence of games and travel, Flamengo is enjoying a good run of form in the competition. The team is on a five-game winning streak, over Vila Velha, Vitória, Araraquara, Assis, and Bauru. After Brasília, Flamengo heads to São Paulo, where they face Pinheiros on Friday (February 25.02) at 20 p.m. and Paulistano on Sunday (February 27.02) at 11 a.m.

"We've been on a very strong run of games in recent months and this will be our last week with three matches. We'll maintain our seriousness and concentration and take advantage of the matches to fine-tune our plays and some fundamentals, like defense," said forward/guard Marcelinho.

For the match against Brasília, Flamengo will have power forward Jefferson back, having recovered from a right thigh adductor injury that kept him out of action for a month. American David Teague will be out of action. He is recovering from a back injury and has missed the last three matches.

"I know that Brasília is one of the best teams in the country, alongside Flamengo. I believe they are one step ahead of us in their preparation because they have spent more time training together," said coach Gonzalo Garcia, who took over at Flamengo in January.
