Flamengo gained an important reinforcement this Friday morning (01.07) for the 2014/2015 basketball season. Argentine Walter Herrmann joins the victorious red-black squad, champion of all tournaments played last season, to go in search of the Intercontinental Cup and other titles.
Having won the Olympic gold medal with the Argentine national team in 2004, Walter is a former NBA player and MVP of the last Argentine championship. Walter is very excited about the opportunity to represent the Red-Blacks. "I'm very happy, I've always enjoyed playing for important teams. Flamengo is a very prominent team in Latin America. It will be a little different for me because it's a new league, a new challenge, but I'm very optimistic," said the athlete.
With the signing of Walter Herrmann, Flamengo will have two players from the current Argentine national team in its squad. The "Mais Querido" currently has Nico Laprovittola. It is worth noting that Flamengo's players will face each other at Maracanãzinho on Saturday (July 02.07), in a match between Brazil and Argentina, valid for the preparation tournament for the World Cup in Spain. Red-Black Nation already has a flash sale so that fan members can watch the red-black athletes in today's game for free. Click here to request your entry.
Certain that the new signing can add a lot to the team, Alexandre Póvoa, Flamengo's VP of Olympic Sports, believes Walter Herrmann will make a difference in Flamengo's season. "His arrival completes the team very well. He will be the first Olympic champion to play for Flamengo. He is a very high-level player. Furthermore, we were able to renew contracts with eight players from last season's squad. At the World Cup, we will likely have between three and five players, and if we count the South American player, we will have eight of the nine players on the main squad. We were able to sign this key reinforcement in the paint, which is very important for us to play the biggest season in Flamengo's history," concluded Póvoa.
