On Friday morning (November 08.11th), at the HSBC Arena, a press conference organized by the National Basketball League (LNB) marked the launch of the sixth edition of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). The event was attended by representatives of the 17 teams that will participate in the competition and was held after Flamengo's last training session before the match against Brasília, which will be played this Saturday (November 09.11th), at 10 am, at the HSBC Arena and will open the NBB 6 disputes. At the press conference table, as representatives of the red-blacks, were coach José Neto and shooting guard Benite.
"This edition of the NBB will be better than previous ones. The competition becomes more attractive with each passing year. We expect a very tough championship, as all the teams have invested. It's important to start well, but it's even more crucial to have a trajectory that will get us to the front in a position to fight for the title. I'm very happy to be part of this group here, which aims to make Brazilian basketball even greater, and also to be representing a great club, Flamengo," said José Neto.
Benite also expressed excitement about the start of the competition. Besides highlighting the strength of Flamengo, which will take the court to begin its title defense, the shooting guard made a point of emphasizing the importance of the country having a high-level national championship, such as Novo Basquete Brasil.
"I'm very happy to be participating in this game (against Brasília), which shows how much the NBB and its teams are growing. Taking advantage of this positive moment for the League, good things can happen, depending on our attitudes. We have everything we need to put on a good game on Saturday and, above all, put on a spectacle for everyone watching. The goal is to make people who have never played basketball want to start playing and also do what we love," he explained.
The sixth edition of the NBB will feature representatives from six Brazilian states plus the Federal District. After the qualifying round, the playoffs will begin on April 09, 2014, and end on May 31, the date of the grand final. Midway through the season, in February of next year, the All-Star Game will be held at a location yet to be determined.
