Ever more in the lead. FlaBasquete faced another NBB challenge this Sunday, defeating Basquete Cearense with a score of 92-75, taking a commanding lead. They now have 10 wins in 12 games, with an 83% success rate. This was their fifth consecutive victory in the competition. Now, Flamengo remains in the northeast to face Universo/Vitória next Tuesday at 19:30 pm.
There were some standouts. On a collective team, the names change from game to game. Olivinha recorded another double-double, his fourth of the season, with 19 points and 12 rebounds. But the real star of the show was Venezuelan David Cubillán, with 24 points, six of which came from three-point range. The number eight was sharp and was the red-and-black's main weapon, especially in the final quarter, helping the team surge ahead.
Ronald Ramon, who was celebrating his birthday, also got to celebrate. The shooting guard scored 12 points, playing a key role in the victory on his 31st birthday. Marquinhos, with 17 points, six rebounds, and three assists, and center JP Batista, with 12 points, rounded out the list of standout performers.
The home team played in front of a packed stadium with a cheering crowd. This helped Basquete Cearense, which was looking to bounce back in the competition, finish the first quarter ahead (25-24).
However, Flamengo knew how to organize itself and take the lead early in the next half, to avoid losing again. In the first half, the difference closed at nine points (32x41).
The third quarter was also dominated by Flamengo. Olivinha scored seven points and led the team in the half, closing out the game at 55-66. And in the end, Cubillán turned the game around with his three-pointers. The half saw Flamengo score 11 points, and Flamengo had a comfortable path to victory.
