With 30 points from Marcelinho, Fla beats São José: 88 to 85
Despite a tight game, the red-blacks secure another victory and remain leaders of the NBB

Flamengo remains the leader of the 2010-2011 New Basketball Brazil Championship. On an inspired night for Marcelinho Machado and Bábby, who combined to score 51 of the club's 88 points, the team from Gávea defeated São José 88-85 in a thrilling match played at the HSBC Arena. With the victory, Argentine coach Gonzalo Garcia's team has now won seven of its nine matches in the competition. The night was also special for Jefferson, who played his 100th game for Flamengo.
The next challenge will be on Sunday (23.01), against Limeira, current São Paulo champion, at 11 am, at the same location.
The first half was a tight affair. Flamengo took an 11-4 lead in the first quarter, but São José closed the gap, and after that, neither team could pull away. The first quarter ended 20-20, and the second 41-41.
At halftime, forward/center Jefferson received a plaque in honor of his 100 games with the red and black shirt, a milestone reached in the match against Uberlândia.
Flamengo pulled back in front in the middle of the third quarter: 54 x 45 and closed the set with a seven-point advantage: 65 x 58. In the last quarter, the Rubro-negro remained in the lead, opening 73 x 67 and then 83 x 77. In the last seconds, São José closed in: 86 x 85. But Bábby guaranteed two more points for Fla and the victory in 88 x 85.
"It was a very balanced game, São José was on a roll and we knew it was going to be tough, we know São José's strength," said Marcelinho, remembering that the team is still adapting to the style of the new coach, the Argentine Gonzalo Garcia: "The team is still a bit stuck, but I already feel the team is much more consistent. We knew how to work the ball and get another important victory," he concluded.
