With five red-and-blacks, Brazilian basketball wins gold at the Pan American Games

For the sixth time, the Brazilian men's basketball team won the gold medal at the Pan American Games, once again featuring talented Brazilians. This Saturday (July 25.07), the team led by coach Rubén Magnano defeated Canada 86-71 at the Ryerson Athletic Centre, securing the undefeated title. The national team enjoyed strong performances from Vitor Benite (9 points, 5 rebounds, and 7 assists), João Paulo Batista (4 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 rebound), and Olivinha (10 points, 2 rebounds). The national team's coaching staff included coach José Neto as assistant coach and Diego Falcão as physical trainer.
The campaign saw victories over Puerto Rico (92-59), Venezuela (79-64), and the United States (93-83) in the qualifying round, and the Dominican Republic (68-62) in the semifinal round. Benite, the red-and-black, was the team's top scorer in the matches against Venezuela, the USA, and the Dominican Republic.
In the seventeen editions of the men's tournament, Brazil reached the podium 14 times and secured the gold medal six times: Cali, Colombia (1971); Indianapolis, United States (1987); Winnipeg, Canada (1999); Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (2003); Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2007) and Toronto, Canada (2015). There were two more silver medals (1963 and 1983) and six bronze medals (1951 / 1955 / 1959 / 1975 / 1979 and 1995).
