The road to the London 2012 Olympic Games begins this Tuesday (August 30.08) for Brazilian basketball. With the red-and-blacks Marcelinho Machado and Caio Torres, the team faces Venezuela at 14 pm (Brasília time) in its debut at the Pre-Olympic Games in Mar Del Plata, Argentina. Brazil has not competed in the Olympics since Atlanta in 1996.

At 36 years old, the red-black captain Marcelinho is competing in his fifth pre-Olympic tournament.

"We're very confident based on what we've already shown at the World Cup (Brazil finished ninth). The level we played qualifies us to compete in the Olympics. The team started its preparations a month before the other teams, and that will also help a lot," said Marcelinho.

Flamengo will also have two more representatives in the Argentine national team: winger Federico Kammerichs, recently signed by the Rio de Janeiro team, and coach Gonzalo Garcia, Julio Lamas' assistant on the team.
