With a great performance, FlaBasquete defeats Minas by 79 to 69, in the Champions League debut

Flamengo had three very consistent periods that paved the way for victory

With a fast pace, FlaBasquete beat Minas by 79 to 69, this Wednesday (03), at Maracanãzinho, and debuts on the right foot in the Champions League.

The game

The first quarter began with Mengão's three-pointers falling. Marquinhos and Olivinha led the way early. With a strong defensive performance, the Pride of the Nation ended up winning 19-10.

Flamengo started the second quarter holding its lead over Minas. After Marquinhos came on, FlaBasquete extended its lead and had an excellent period, going into halftime ahead 36-20.

The third period saw a high level of intensity from Mengão. Balbi and Hett provided offensive outlets. With a strong collective performance, Minas was unable to hold off the red-and-black team. Final quarter: Flamengo 62-43 Minas.

With experience, Mengão managed the scoring. Minas improved its 3-point shooting and closed the gap. However, it wasn't enough to stop FlaBasquete, who won 79-69.

"It's important to start the Champions League by beating the team that's leading our league and has been doing a great job. The victory gives us the confidence to face Instituto in a better way. The team played 32 to 35 very good minutes," concluded the point guard.

Coach Gustavinho spoke about FlaBasquete's next opponent, Instituto Córdoba:

"Instituto is stronger than last year. They've signed foreign players and have a very athletic team that's very good at rebounding. Tomorrow, Minas Gerais and Instituto will be a huge game, just like Flamengo and Instituto," he analyzed.
