With a packed house, that's how the red-and-black team made its debut in the Novo Basquete Brasil 7 (NBB) playoffs. Playing the first game of the best-of-five series against São José dos Campos, Flamengo imposed its rhythm and emerged victorious 85-62 in a match valid for the quarterfinals of the national championship.
With a beautiful celebration from the Flamengo fans and great performances from Benite, Marquinhos, and Olivinha, Flamengo gave their opponent no chance. The power forward commented on the victory.
"We played a great game, with excellent defense. I'm happy with this victory. We have another game soon, so we have to stay focused on this series. Today we played with the eye of the tiger, focused on victory," said Olivinha, the match's standout player. "I'm happy to help Flamengo achieve another victory, to be the star of the match, another double-double. I'm very happy to be helping. I'm very happy to start the playoffs with a win already, now it's time to think about the next game," he concluded.

The game
With a blistering start and fueled by the red-and-black Nation, FlaBasquete came out swinging. Early in the game, winger Marquinhos hit a stunning three-pointer, opening the scoring for Flamengo, who soon took a seven-point lead. Even with the São Paulo team tied, coach José Neto's men, with a stellar performance by Olivinha, closed the first quarter 28-15.
The second half didn't change the pace of the Flamengo game. With a completely different lineup than the one that finished the first ten minutes of the match, Flamengo maintained its intensity. The team pressed hard, and on offense, Marcelinho and Marquinhos played beautiful basketball. If Flamengo were pushing forward on the court, the stands were no different: the Nation was putting on a show. The result was another quarter in favor of the Pride of the Nation: 19-18.
Flamengo seemed determined to give their opponent no chances, and it was with a three-pointer from point guard Nicolás Laprovittola that Flamengo opened the second half. Leading throughout the quarter, the reigning Brazilian champions relied on Benite's consistency and Olivinha's determination to maintain their lead. FlaBasquete closed the third half 20-18.
The final quarter arrived, and the Pride of the Nation proved once again that it was hungry for victory. With the same impetus as at the beginning of the match, Flamengo didn't stop. Pressing, chasing every rebound, and counterattacking quickly, the players alternated on the court, but the high level of play remained unchanged. In a strong quarter of the match, with highlights from Benite and Gegê, Flamengo closed the period 18-11—and the game 85-62.
