With a century-old score, FlaBasquete easily defeats Pinheiros and remains in the lead of the NBB
Even without Gustavo De Conti, Olivinha and Franco Balbi, Rubro-Negro scores 100 to 63; Luke is the top scorer and Hettsheimeir reaches a double-double
By Isabela Abirached - inO Orgulho da Nação entered the court this Sunday (14), for Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB), and had no difficulty in beating Pinheiros by 100 to 63. With 23 wins in 25 games, Flamengo is in the isolated lead of the qualifying phase of the tournament.
The highlights of the duel were Luke Martinez, top scorer with 21 points, Hettsheimeir, who reached a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Leo Demetrio, with 17 points and eight rebounds.
The game
With assistant coach Fernando Pereira on the sidelines, as coach Gustavo De Conti tested positive for COVID-19, FlaBasquete maintained its style of play, relying on volume and long-range shots. Even without Olivinha and Franco Balbi, both injured, the Rubro-Negro team gave their opponent no chance.
In the first quarter, with three-pointers from Luke (2), Hettsheimeir (2), Marquinhos (1) and Mineiro (1), the sharp aim of Flamengo's stars left the team with an impressive 33 points, compared to just 15 from Pinheiros. The second quarter was more balanced, with a 17-12 run and highlights for Leo Demetrio, who scored seven points and three rebounds, and Luke Martinez, who made every shot he attempted, reaching 13 points.
After halftime, Pinheiros managed to mount a comeback, but it didn't last long. Flamengo dominated the rebounds, maintained a high shooting percentage, and closed the third quarter with a 27-14 run. Now with the quintet more experience on the court, Pinheiros simply had to manage the victory in the final quarter, scoring a resounding 100-63.
Next appointment
Mengão returns to play in the NBB this Tuesday (16), at 17 pm, against Mogi, at Maracanãzinho. The team is the current champion of
competition and fight for the seventh championship this season.
