With Kayo Gonçalves among the squad, the Brazilian under-16 basketball team debuts this Wednesday (the 10th), at 18:15 pm Brasília time, against the Dominican Republic in the category's Copa América. The competition will be held in Bahia Blanca, Argentina. In addition to the young power forward, Flamengo's youth coach Igor Meletti will also be on the coaching staff as one of the assistants.
Brazil, which is in Group A, next faces Puerto Rico (Thursday, at 4 p.m.) and the United States (Friday, at 16:15 p.m.). Group B consists of Argentina, Canada, Mexico, and Venezuela. The top four teams will secure a spot in the 18th U-17 World Championship in 2016.
Form of dispute
The eight teams are divided into two groups of four, which play each other in their respective brackets in a single round. The top two teams in each group qualify for the semifinal stage on Saturday (13.06), using the Olympic crossover system: 1st A x 2nd B and 1st B x 2nd A. The winners decide the title on Sunday (14.06), while the losers play for third place.
