The reigning Super 8 champion, FlaBasquete, returns to the court for the knockout competition this Sunday at 11 a.m. to face Vasco. The match carries not only the importance of opening the title defense for the "Mais Querido" (Most Beloved), but also the weight of being the first time the Clássico dos Milhões has taken place in the knockout stage of Brazilian basketball since the beginning of the century. 

Known for its short-term, knockout format, the Super 8 brings together the eight best teams from the NBB's first round. Flamengo, with the second-best record, has the advantage of deciding all the rounds it advances to at home, with the exception of a potential final against Minas Gerais (1st). SporTV, FlaTV+, and Basquetpass will broadcast the tournament. 

History

The "Mais Querido" is the competition's biggest winner, with three titles (2018, 2021, and 2024). On six occasions, the red-and-black team has reached five finals - in addition to being one of three teams that have participated in every edition of the tournament, which began in 2018. Flamengo also has the most Super 8 games, with 17 matches, is the only team to surpass the 1344-point mark (8), and is the sole leader in rebounds and assists. Finally, FlaBasquete has always qualified for the Super XNUMX Cup among the top three teams and has never lost in the quarterfinals.

Coach Gustavo De Conti spoke about the importance of a Clássico dos Milhões in the knockout tournament.

"It's a great rivalry, a different kind of game. During the week, we prepare a lot tactically and technically, but also mentally with the players—especially for a derby like this. We're playing at home, with the support of our fans, and we're working to make that work in our favor. We have experienced and successful players, accustomed to decisive moments. I have complete confidence in our team," said the coach.
