One day after winning its sixth state championship, Flamengo has another reason to celebrate. The club can now officially introduce its newest addition: American David Teague. The winger's documentation has been sorted out, and he will be on the court this Sunday (December 19.12) against Paulistano in the NBB (New Basketball Brazil). The match will be played at 11 a.m. at the Tijuca Tennis Club gymnasium.

The 27-year-old, 1'96" player has been training with the team since late November. Teague graduated from Purdue University (NCAA), where he played from 2003 to 2007. Last season, he played for the LTi Giessen 46ers in Germany. He played 18 games and finished with the league's best points average of 20.4. He also had stints with JA Vichy in France and AEL 1964 in Greece.

"Teague is a very high-quality player who gained a lot of experience during his time in Europe. He will certainly help increase the team's attacking power and enhance the quality of the group," praised coach Paulo Chupeta.

Flamengo had little time to celebrate their sixth title. This Friday (17.12/15), the team returns to work with a recovery training session at the club's pool, in Gávea, at XNUMX pm. The focus is already on Sunday's game against Paulistano.

"It was important to close the year with a title. I'm happy to have helped Flamengo win this trophy, but now it's time to recharge my batteries and think about the game against Paulistano, on Sunday, in the NBB," said point guard Marcelinho, who scored 42 points in the final against Tijuca (90 x 77).

In the NBB, Flamengo has four wins in five games (losing in the last round to Pinheiros), an 80% success rate. Paulistano has four wins in six games, a 66.67% success rate.

"We're going to use the motivation of winning our sixth state championship to recover from the defeat in the last NBB match. Paulistano is a tough opponent, a team made up of youngsters who are looking for their place. We'll have to be very careful," said Chupeta, who led the team to six consecutive state titles (2005 to 2010).
