It was the first loss of 2018, in 10 games, and at home. A triple defeat that must be felt, but without losing direction. For the coach of the red-and-black basketball team, José Neto, the 71-72 setback to Paulistano at Arena Carioca this Saturday provides lessons that will be useful for the rest of the championship. Neto praised his rivals' attitude and lamented their lack of luck on the rebounds.
"It's a loss we need to feel. We're losing at home for the first time. We have our focus firmly in place, and we can't lose it because of this result. This needs to serve as a way for us to evolve and fix the mistakes we made in the game. We opted to defend the pick-and-roll because they were punishing us a lot with that. This created an imbalance. They took advantage of the offensive rebound much more because we were forcing them to make mistakes, but we ended up suffering from that. In a game with such a short score, we regret not getting some rebounds," said the coach after the game.
Losing the lead was a consequence of the defeat. But for Neto, the momentary drop will help the team maintain focus and attention for the rest of the first phase.
"I don't think losing the lead is a warning sign. We need to be more consistent throughout the match, with balance. I want this to serve as a lesson for this team, so that we're very solid throughout the match and can win the title. We were looking for the result, we were very close to winning, but we couldn't finish it off. The championship is tough, and nobody wins on the eve of the match. We'll work harder to be strong in the matches."
The NBB doesn't stop and next week FlaBasquete will have two away matches. On Tuesday (06), against Joinville, and on Thursday (08), against Caxias do Sul, before returning home, where they will play the classic against Franca, on the 15th, at Arena Carioca. Right after today's game, Neto already made a quick analysis of what is to come.
"These are two tough games. Joinville is coming off tough losses, Caxias is coming off a win in Bauru and a tough game against Franca. Let's focus on Joinville first, as this is the most important game for us to get back to winning ways," he concluded.
