Challenge: Football players face the basketball hoop
Red and black players from the orange ball and the grass meet in the NBA Half Court Challenge

The NBA challenge disrupted the routine activities at the George Helal Training Center. This time, neither Maracanãzinho nor HSBC Arena took place: Field 5 at Ninho do Urubu was the stage for a basketball challenge to promote the NBA Global Games Rio, which features Flamengo vs. Orlando Magic on October 17th in Barra da Tijuca. after the morning trainingPaulo Victor, Samir, Marcelo Cirino, Canteros, Ederson, and Gabriel joined Jerome Meyinsse, Olivinha, JP Batista, and Gegê, with coach José Neto keeping a close eye on the players' abilities. The rules were simple: the soccer players would have five chances to shoot from a distance of 14 meters, which is half the size of a basketball court, and whoever made the most shots would win.

Accustomed to handling the ball with their feet, the players were able to test their skills with the ball in their hands before starting the challenge, relying on tips from Flamengo basketball players. Ederson demonstrated familiarity with the orange ball and shot with technique. Gabriel joked that his nickname as a child was Michael Jordan, but he demonstrated skill even when juggling. With shots counting to decide the winner, Samir and Canteros tied with one hit each. In the tiebreaker, according to the rules of the game, they were given a joker—one of the basketball players—to play for them. After missing the first two alternating shots, Jerome took a chance for Samir and missed; Gegê made no mistake, making Canteros the NBA Half Court Challenge champion.
"I had a good wild card," Canteros celebrated, while the red-and-black point guard Gegê left modesty aside. "Canteros knew how to bet on the right person (laughs)," said the Pride of the Nation's number 19, who also declared he was looking forward to the match against the Orlando Magic.
"Flamengo vs. Orlando is different. We've been waiting a long time for this game, now at our home. Today, being able to participate in this action with them (soccer players) is great. I hope they're cheering with us," he commented.
José Neto also praised the meeting with the football players, but believes their place is on the field.
"It's better to let them work with their feet (laughs). But this challenge is difficult, even for basketball players. Gegê is used to it; he always wins in our games. But thanks for the availability and the partnership with football," he concluded.
