Besides Flamengo, player Diego Marques could also become a two-time champion of the Basketball Development League (LDB). In 2011, he was part of the Flamengo squad that won the first edition of the championship. Competitive, the forward hopes to win many tournaments for the club from Gávea.

"I like being a champion. Since Flamengo enters every championship aiming to win the title, I think I'm at the best club. I always want to win any competition for the club," he said. For him, the main strength of this Flamengo team, which is the only undefeated team in the LDB after three stages, is the chemistry created between the players.

"I hope this unity within the group continues. It makes us different. Our undefeated streak reflects our unity. If we continue like this, no one can stop Flamengo," said the player, who was chosen by the National Basketball League as the best player in the first stage of the LDB.

"As soon as the first stage ended, I realized I had done something excellent. I expected something good, but not first place in the players' ranking. I was shocked and thrilled to have my work recognized," he celebrated.

Arrival at Flamengo

Diego Marques is 21 years old and arrived at Gávea in 2011, at only 19. The player was born in Rondonópolis, Mato Grosso, and had his first opportunity at a big club in 2009, when he went to Fluminense after standing out for his home state team. After a year at Laranjeiras, he went to play in São Paulo, but ended up returning to Tricolor, his last club before coming to Flamengo.

With a strong track record from his youth career, Diego now hopes for more opportunities with Flamengo's senior team, of which he is already a member. "I'm preparing myself a lot. I know I'm young and opportunities to play are few, but I'm working hard to have a chance to get on the court," he said.
