Flamengo's under-13 and under-15 teams maintained their unbeaten record in the State Basketball Championship. In matches played this Saturday (April 16.04) at the Hélio Maurício gymnasium in Gávea, the Flamengo boys defeated Botafogo in the third round of the competition. The under-17 team was not so lucky and ended up defeated by the same opponent.
In the first game of the day, the under-13 team crushed their opponents, 78 to 16. The red-black coach, Nelson, was not surprised by the victory, as the team had beaten Vasco, in the last round, 99 to 40.
"This victory is the result of teamwork, of the collective. The boys have been together since pre-juniors. There isn't a single player who stands out," celebrated the coach.
The under-15 team took the court next and, despite a more even match, also won, 67-61. Point guard Douglas was the star of the game. His agility and skill on both defense and offense earned Mengão 15 points.
In the last and most difficult challenge of the day, the under-17 team, despite all their effort and struggle, was defeated 52-70. The red-and-black Jefferson was the game's top scorer, with 15 points, most of them from baskets outside the paint.
For the club's youth academy coordinator, Paulo Chupeta, the team lacked offensive inspiration in the match, but has great potential and should still fight for the title.
"These boys are very good. They remain in first place despite the result," said Chupeta.
The under-15 and under-17 teams return to the court on April 30.04th against ABEQT in Teresópolis. The under-13 teams will play on May 14.05th against Jequiá in Gávea.
