After 20 consecutive victories, Flamengo no longer has a 100% record in the Basketball Development League (LDB). Without Gegê, the Mais Querido was defeated by Basquete Cearense by 80 to 69, at the Gymnasium of Sport Clube do Recife, last Wednesday (09.10). The club from Gávea has 61 points and remains in second place, since Minas, current leader with 62 points, played 24 matches, compared to 21 for the red-blacks.
Gegê was not on the court, as he will be on the court for the Adult team on Thursday night (10.10), against Campos, for the State Championship. With his absence, center Douglas took responsibility and was the team's top scorer with 18 points. Alef and Chupeta, who scored 13 and 12 points, respectively, also did well.
The game
Flamengo faced a very strong opponent from the first minute. With Diego and Douglas Marques well-marked, the attack was not very efficient. Thanks mainly to Erick Camilo's excellent performance, Basquete Cearense finished the first quarter leading by six points. After an even better second quarter, the Ceará team went into halftime leading 45-31.
The Mais Querido returned for the second half with a more aggressive stance. With a great performance from Douglas Marques, Paulo Chupeta's team managed to close the deficit to just three points (46-43). Basquete Cearense, however, fought back and finished the third quarter leading 55-48. In the final part of the match, the Rubro-Negro struggled to turn the score around, but the Ceará team prevailed and closed the match 80-69.
Flamengo will play again this Thursday morning (10.10), at 9 am, at the Sport Clube do Recife gym, where they will face Vitoria.
