Varejão was the man of the afternoon. The number 17 achieved his first double-double for Flamengo, with a spirited performance that ended with 10 points and 11 rebounds and a 75-72 victory over Mogi, with plenty of drama in the final seconds. 

Varejão decided the match. In the final minute, the center scored the team's final four points, while also grabbing offensive rebounds, which prevented Mogi from getting on the scoreboard. Decisive, just as the nation always believed he would be.

After the match, the star spoke about the level on the court and analyzed the balanced duel, already considered one of the best of the season so far. 

"It was a tense game from the start, very well contested, so much so that the first two quarters ended in a draw. There were some mistakes on both sides, with ups and downs as well. It was a very physical game, but the most important thing is that we came back in the second half calmly, when we opened the scoring and they came back to get it. It was an even game from start to finish, but we prevailed there in the end, where we made some passes and sealed the game," the player explained. 

This was Varejão's second double-digit points total in the NBB, while also increasing his rebounding average. As he becomes increasingly integrated into the team, he's becoming a key player in José Neto's scheme. Against Botafogo next Monday at 19 p.m. at Arena Carioca, the center will face his first regional derby without the home team in attendance.
