Basketball roster getting stronger and stronger

At Gávea since 2007, point guard Hélio highlights the quality of the group for this season

With each passing year, Flamengo's basketball team strives to strengthen. Since 2005, the team has reigned supreme in Rio de Janeiro. Beginning in 2007, with the arrival of Marcelinho, it also became among the best in Brazil and South America. Two-time national champion and South American champion, the Rubro-Negro hopes to achieve even more glory this season.

And to that end, they reinforced their squad. Not only did they maintain their core roster of experienced players, such as Marcelinho, Teichmann, Helio, Fred, Duda, and Jefferson, but they also brought back center Baby and signed American Kyle Lamonte, forming a strong squad for the 2010-2011 NBB and international competitions such as the South American League and the League of the Americas.

"Our team is even stronger. Everyone knows Baby; he's a quality guy who dominates the paint and can help us a lot. Lamonte, from what I've seen of his games for Peñarol, is a player who scores a lot and calls the shots when needed, but he also has a strong team spirit and will fit perfectly into our group," analyzed point guard Hélio.

At Gávea since 2007, the number 5 believes that his job will be even easier with the arrival of these reinforcements.

"For a point guard, it's obviously easier to have quality teammates. The better the other players are, the better the play distribution becomes. I often say that the point guard isn't responsible for scoring a lot. It happens, of course, but the most important thing is to make the team play, and having this type of player makes everything easier," he added.
