The team won the classic by 92 x 82 and now faces Pinheiros in the second round

Flamengo secured an important victory in its debut in the second phase of the South American League, in São Paulo. The team defeated Brasília, 92 x 82, on Tuesday night (11/27), at the Pinheiros gym, with a great performance by forward/center Olivinha, who scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. Vitor Benite scored 21 points and Marquinhos scored 19.
This Wednesday (28.11), Flamengo faces Pinheiros, at 10:22 pm, in the second round of group F. The team's last game will be against Tiburones de Vargas (VEN), on Thursday (28.11), at 20 pm. The first two placed teams will qualify for the final quadrangular, from December 4 to 6, with the venue still to be defined. Regatas Corrientes and Peñarol, both from Argentina, have already secured their places.
"I was having a good night, and my teammates noticed. The most important thing was being able to help the team and achieve this victory, which is so important to us," said Olivinha, who highlighted Flamengo's defense as the difference in the second half. "We didn't start well, but we managed to get our defense right in the second half," he added.
Flamengo was without captain Marcelinho. The winger sprained his right knee in the team's NBB debut last Saturday (November 24.11) and is in Rio de Janeiro undergoing tests. Center Shilton, recovered from a sprained right thumb, returned to the team for the match.
In a balanced first half, Brasília finished the first quarter ahead 26-24. Flamengo improved in the second period, taking a 39-33 lead after two three-pointers from Benite. Brasília responded and went into halftime leading 47-43. The red-and-black team came back stronger, with a stronger defense, and took the lead with two three-pointers from Olivinha (51-49). The power forward was the standout player in the quarter, which ended with Flamengo ahead 67-64. In the final quarter, the Rio de Janeiro team took a 10-point lead (76-66) and held the lead until the end, 92-82.
"It was very important to win this classic with so much tradition and continue fighting for a place in the final. I don't think we started very well, but we managed to overcome the difficulties in the second half and achieve victory. In this championship, every game is a decisive one," said Benite.
"Now we'll face the home team, a strong team, and I believe it will be another difficult game, but we're well prepared and I hope to get another victory," concluded Olivinha, who played the last four years at Pinheiros.
