In search of a second championship, Flamengo debuts in the LDB
The under-22 team's first challenge will be against Londrina, at 14 pm, in Brasília

In search of its second championship, Flamengo debuts this Thursday (27.12), in the second edition of the LDB (Basketball Development League). The team faces ALE Londrina/Paiquerê FM (PR), at 14 pm, at the Asceb Gymnasium, in Brasília. Flamengo is in group A, which also includes Winner/Kabum/Limeira (SP) and Pinheiros/Sky (SP).
The LDB is equivalent to the Brazilian Under-22 Championship. In the first edition of the competition last year, Flamengo was crowned champion. To defend the title, the team, once again led by Paulo Chupeta, will feature six players who play on the adult team: Gegê, Feliz, Douglas, Alexandre, Diego, and Chupeta.
Point guard Gegê, who was on last year's championship team, believes the level of competition will be high:
"We'll have some great teams competing. And our challenge will be doubly difficult, since Flamengo, having won the title last year, is the team to beat," said the player.
Group B of the tournament includes: Faculdade 2 de Julho (BA), VIVO/Franca (SP), Palmeiras (SP), Tijuca (RJ), and Uniceub/Brasília (DF). Nine other teams, divided into two groups (C and D), will compete in the Minas Gerais group stage of the competition, based in Belo Horizonte. The top two teams from each of the four groups advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, the eight qualified teams will again be divided into two groups, which will play on February 09, 10, and 11. The top two teams from each group will advance to the final stage of the competition, which will be played on February 28 and March 01, at the NBB All-Star Game venue.
