In a great game at the Arena, Flamengo beats Pinheiros and is second in the NBB
Rubro-Negro takes the lead, suffers a comeback, but Pilar changes the scenario in the last quarter

Flamengo vs. Pinheiros had everything you'd expect from a classic like this. Flamengo dominated the first two quarters, lost control in the third, and with Pilar's determination, with the support of the more than two thousand fans who attended the Arena Carioca, they turned the tables in the end and secured their second consecutive victory in NBB 10. The 72-68 score puts the Mais Querido in second place in the standings, replacing Pinheiros, with 16 points in nine games (77.8), and maintained their unbeaten home streak, with four games and four wins.
The standout players of the match were JP Batista, with 17 points and 8 rebounds, Marquinhos, with 13 points and nine assists, and Olivinha, with 12 points and eight rebounds. Flamengo plays again next Tuesday at the same Arena Carioca, at 21 pm, against leaders Mogi.
The game
Flamengo attacked Pinheiros in the first quarter, eager to open up a lead. Marquinhos took control of the game and immediately blew up the Arena with a dunk, following an assist from Pecos. The play galvanized the team, which gained momentum and took an 08-02 lead, forcing Pinheiros coach César Guidetti to call a timeout. The Flamengo defense also performed well, stopping Pinheiros, securing an eight-point lead at the end of the half (22-14).
In the second quarter, Pinheiros attempted to close the gap, but the lead never fell below five points. Cubillán, back in the team, mounted precise counterattacks that invariably resulted in two more points for Flamengo. When the Venezuelan couldn't break through, he would decide the score with a layup. The highlight of the half was Humberto's steal, as Pinheiros came out, which earned the 40th point for Flamengo, giving them an 11-point lead. In the end, Flamengo led 42-30 and went into the locker room comfortably ahead.
But the third quarter changed everything. With a subpar performance, Flamengo scored just eight points and saw Pinheiros score 23, easily taking the half. Many offensive errors marked the fourth quarter, and the red-and-black advantage was reversed to the São Paulo team (50-53).
It took grit and a level head to turn the game back in Flamengo's favor. This level head came with playmaking, solid defense, and less rushing. Pilar's grit came from two hard-fought plays, bringing the crowd back, pushing the team until the end. Pilar hit a three-pointer from deep to lead the team by four points (58-54) and then fought for the rebound, earning the points, and even drawing a foul, making it 61-56, an advantage that ultimately proved to be the difference for Flamengo, with Olivinha scoring in the last second to make it 72-68, stealing second place from Pinheiros and sealing another home victory.
