Fans at Tijuca Tênis Clube on Tuesday night were thrilled with a great basketball game. Flamengo and Mogi faced off in the 20th round of the qualifying phase of the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB CAIXA 9) in a match with 29 three-pointers and a very even match - until the final quarter, when the Mais Querido prevailed and opened up a lead that secured a 90-80 victory.
On the day Ricardo Fischer and Marcelinho Machado returned to play after recovering from injury, the Flamengo's collective play made all the difference. Marcelinho (2), Fischer (3), Pedrinho (2), Ramon (3), Marquinhos (2), Olivinha (1), and Mineiro (1) all put their best foot forward and scored 42 points on three-pointers. The number 16 also achieved his 12th double-double of the season—105th in NBB CAIXA history—with 16 points and ten rebounds. Marquinhos, Flamengo's top scorer with 20
points, was also a highlight and also recorded six assists.
The match was very evenly matched and tied several times until the third quarter, when the Red-Blacks took a ten-point lead, only to be caught again by Mogi. After three quarters in which the teams were separated by just one point, in the final period, the Pride of the Nation won the quarter 27-19 and secured another victory in the competition.
On Thursday (16), José Neto's team returns to the Tijuca Têmis Clube gym to face Campo Mourão, at 20 pm. Tickets are already on sale on the website www.guicheweb.com.br/flamengo.
